Chris Paul has been a successful landscape designer based in Taranaki for the past 30 years and has many of his gardens featured in numerous house and garden magazines in New Zealand. While the majority of his landscape designs are for clients in Taranaki he has a number of clients in other parts of New Zealand.
Chris has studied with world-renowned landscape designer and author John Brookes in the South of France and England. Chris is known for his ability to create gardens that relate to their environment, that best suit the style and period of the house and that reflect the functional and stylistic aspirations of his clients. Clients regularly state, “ Chris listens to us and this is reflected in our garden design ”
Before establishing his business as a landscape designer Chris had worked for many years at Duncan and Davies and it was during this period that his in-depth knowledge of plants was established.
A number of gardens Chris has designed are regularly featured in the annual Taranaki Rhododendron Festival.

Chris Paul was recommended to us in 1988. He re-designed our 1.5 acre garden in Ridge Lane to the stage of it being accepted into the Taranaki Rhododendron Festival in the late 1990s. Now we are in Frankleigh Park, and starting with a “clean sheet” in 2003, Chris designed the garden including the practical bits (driveway, paths, clothesline etc) to befit the nature of the section. He progressively developed the planting over 10 years, encompassed some of our ideas, and met our criteria that it also be relatively easy care. With not only good design, but great growing conditions in New Plymouth, we now enjoy a place of beauty and tranquility with colours and shapes changing through the seasons.
Having had a successful relationship with Chris over the past 25years we have no hesitation in recommending him to all homeowners seeking down to earth practical advice and a design which meets their expectations.
