Chris Paul has been a successful landscape designer based in Taranaki for the past 26 years and has many of his gardens featured in numerous house and garden magazines in New Zealand. While the majority of his landscape designs are for clients in Taranaki he has a number of clients in other parts of New Zealand.
Chris has studied with world-renowned landscape designer and author John Brookes in the South of France and England. Chris is known for his ability to create gardens that relate to their environment, that best suit the style and period of the house and that reflect the functional and stylistic aspirations of his clients. Clients regularly state, “ Chris listens to us and this is reflected in our garden design ”
Before establishing his business as a landscape designer Chris had worked for many years at Duncan and Davies and it was during this period that his in-depth knowledge of plants was established.
A number of gardens Chris has designed are regularly featured in the annual Taranaki Rhododendron Festival.
"Chris created the first concept drawings for our villa's garden back in 2002. Since then he has worked with us to develop an emerging shape and character for the garden. Sometimes the projects have been large; other times they are only just a few hours. In all cases Chris is a great landscape designer, experienced plantsman and trusted confidant."

"We have nothing but praise for the excellent services provided to us by Chris Paul our Landscape Designer. He is very professional with an abundance of experience in all areas of landscaping. We have known Chris and have used his services for a number of our homes over a period of twenty years. When the time came to build our new home from scratch, we contacted Chris at the outset. We had a vision for the type of home and we wanted the outdoor area to complement that vision. Chris listened and took on board our dreams and turned them into reality. We were shown the gardens of some of Chris's other clients to see what could be achieved. Using some of our own ideas as well as taking on board the great suggestions that Chris had, we were able to create a wonderful outdoor area of our own.
We have had great communication with Chris and whenever something has needed to be attended to he has always been approachable and willing to discuss the next stage of our landscaping. Chris has provided us with outstanding service over the period that we have known him. He is very approachable and considerate of our needs and wants and has shown the utmost care for us as his clients. He truly loves what he does and that passion comes across in every outdoor setting that he creates. We would not hesitate to recommend Chris to any of our friends. That from our point of view is the highest possible recommendation"

"I can't recommend Chris enough. He always manages to envisage my ideas effortlessly, and put pen to paper to make them come alive. I have been collaborating with Chris over the last 15 years while developing my English style garden and would never dream of using anyone else!"

Chris will initially meet you onsite for an initial consultation. Once the ideas of both the client and Chris have been agreed then Chris will do a detailed working drawing. This will then sent to the client for consideration and any necessary changes can be made. Chris can develop a detailed planting plan if the clients wish. Chris can also undertake full project management with quotes for hard landscaping obtained, discussed and agreed with the client and then supervising the construction as required.
Chris designs gardens for clients who have just purchased a section and want to orient their house plans to the proposed garden or will give a new direction to an established garden. Commercial clients also commission Chris to design and supervise the construction of workplace projects.
"Chris Paul was recommended to us in 1988. He re-designed our 1.5 acre garden in Ridge Lane to the stage of it being accepted into the Taranaki Rhododendron Festival in the late 1990s. Now we are in Frankleigh Park, and starting with a “clean sheet” in 2003, Chris designed the garden including the practical bits (driveway, paths, clothesline etc) to befit the nature of the section. He progressively developed the planting over 10 years, encompassed some of our ideas, and met our criteria that it also be relatively easy care. With not only good design, but great growing conditions in New Plymouth, we now enjoy a place of beauty and tranquility with colours and shapes changing through the seasons.
Having had a successful relationship with Chris over the past 25years we have no hesitation in recommending him to all homeowners seeking down to earth practical advice and a design which meets their expectations."
